Units, placements and entitlement
VNCdirectory+ is the source of truth for who exists and what they may use. Everything else in the suite asks it.
Units are a tree
Section titled “Units are a tree”Units nest: company → region → branch → team, with division, department and sub organization levels too. Every unit shows how many people, child units and products it holds.
People are placed
Section titled “People are placed”A person has a placement on a unit — primary or secondary — plus a membership and a seat lifecycle:
| Lifecycle | Meaning |
|---|---|
| active | Counts against a seat and can sign in. |
| suspended | Temporarily removed; can be Reactivated or Retained. |
| retained | Kept in the directory without a seat. |
Products inherit down the tree
Section titled “Products inherit down the tree”A product is assigned to a unit and inherits down its subtree. Assign it to the company and every unit below has it, unless overridden. This is why entitlement is managed here and not per product: the portal shows a tile only if VNCdirectory+ says you are entitled to it.
External parties are separate
Section titled “External parties are separate”Customers, partners and suppliers (External Parties) live in parallel trees. CRM and PRM reference them by identity, so a party is never duplicated.
